Calia Italia

For decades, Calia Italia have been crafting sofas with an accessible, inclusive design, paying meticulous attention to detail in Matera, Italy, reaching customers across the globe.

Liborio Vincenzo Calia, the founder of Calia Italia, was born in 1926 and began his journey in an artisan workshop at a young age. There, he honed his skills in carpentry, crafting a diverse array of wooden objects, from practical tools to exquisite decorative pieces for the home.

In 1944, at just 18 years old, he embarked on his own entrepreneurial venture. By 1965, his passion for creating furniture that brings joy to people’s lives led to the inception of Calia Italia, specializing in upholstered furniture designed to enhance comfort and well-being.

Calia Italia’s roots lie in Matera, renowned for its ancient “Sassi” neighborhoods—unique dwellings carved into the white, porous rock of ravine slopes. Despite the harsh and remote landscape, Matera’s inhabitants have cultivated a deep sense of solidarity and community spirit, seeking comfort and beauty to enrich their lives.

Our values—transparency, solidarity, flexibility, reliability, integrity, and respect for family, tradition, and culture—are deeply ingrained in our company ethos. We prioritize nurturing young talents and embracing innovation to make beauty and quality accessible to all.

At the heart of our success are our human and technological excellences. Our team comprises skilled experts, each specializing in a specific aspect of furniture creation, from design to material selection and finishing. Meanwhile, our adoption of the SAP integrated system in 2002 revolutionized our production process, and in 2005, we established one of Europe’s largest automated warehouses, optimizing efficiency and storage capacity.

In our production process, we prioritize sustainability. With state-of-the-art automatic cutting machines, we minimize fabric waste, reducing environmental impact and improving the well-being of our workers. We continuously monitor and optimize energy and water consumption to minimize waste and uphold our commitment to sustainable development.
